Deadpulse started as a single cron line in a personal server closet: a nightly backup that had quietly failed for weeks before anyone noticed. The fix wasn't a bigger dashboard — it was a switch that trips when the expected signal doesn't arrive. We built the tool we wished we'd had, and kept it deliberately small.

Uptime checks watch for something going wrong. We watch for something that should happen — and doesn't. A backup that silently stops is invisible to a health endpoint but obvious to a dead man's switch.
